How Often Should Kids Floss and Brush Their Teeth?
Posted on 2/21/2022 by Kevin Nail, DDS
It is important to teach your kids an effective dental hygiene routine to avoid teeth decay, cavities, and gum diseases. Although it is tricky to get some kids to brush their teeth every now and then, it is crucial to keep enforcing the rule until they learn that it is necessary. This will help them in the long run, and as they grow up, they will be doing it even without your supervision.
How Often Should Kids Brush and Floss
The general rule is that adults and kids as well need to brush their teeth at least twice daily. That is in the morning and before bedtime. However, it is advisable to tell your kids to brush if they have consumed very sugary foods. They can also floss to remove the sticky plaque or rinse their mouth with natural water. This is to eliminate and stop the acidic bacteria from eroding teeth enamel.
Helping Your Child Brush
Your child can begin having their teeth cleaned as soon as their first teeth appear. However, you will help them brush their teeth as you teach them the importance of brushing daily. You can begin by using a damp cloth and running it over their first teeth to remove all the food debris and tartar that many have built up. If your kid is about two years old, try to make brushing fun for them. You can use games and stories to get them to brush their teeth. Also, talk to our dentist to know the right brush and toothpaste to use. Our dentist will also provide you with more tips on how to get your child to brush their teeth.
When Should I Take My Child to a Pediatric Dentist
Taking your kid to a pediatric dentist as early as possible will not only help them overcome their fear and anxiety. It will also help maintain their oral health. We welcome you to our dental clinic to have your child's teeth examined.
